Subhas Gupta, MD, CM, PhD, FRCSC, FACS
Dr. Gupta possesses a unique set of skills as the Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery. He believes his first responsibility is to care for and educate each of his patients. He has brought a broad surgical expertise and international clinical experience to the Inland Empire. After graduating from McGill University School of Medicine in Montreal, Canada, Dr. Gupta spent nearly a decade in post-graduate training completing residency training and fellowships:
- General Surgery (McGill University)
- Plastic and Reconstructive surgery (McGill University)
- Laser Surgery and Aesthetic Surgery (McGill University)
- Hand and Microsurgery (University of Nevada)
- Laser Surgery
He has also undertaken additional training in cosmetic skin care, anti-aging medicine, nutrition, and exercise physiology. He is board certified in plastic surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American Association of Academic Chairmen in Plastic Surgery, the Plastic Surgery Research Council, the American College of Surgeons, and several other national groups. He has been named in the coveted “America’s Top Plastic Surgeons” listing annually since 2006. His clinical expertise includes:
- aesthetic surgery focusing facial rejuvenation and breast and body contouring
- technology-enhanced surgery such as endoscopic, short scar, laser, and pulsed light facial rejuvenation
- skin resurfacing including laser surgery and chemical peels
- surgery of the hand
- complex, re-operative cosmetic surgery ("unplasty's")
- surgical and non-surgical wound and scar care
Surgeon, educator, and researcher
Dr. Gupta holds the academic rank of Professor in the School of Medicine and serves as the residency program director for the Department of Plastic Surgery. He holds a PhD in medical informatics with expertise and active research projects in Internet-based health-care delivery, virtual reality in surgery, and technology assessment. He has been well recognized for his contributions to research in informatics, aesthetic surgery, outcomes assessment, and wound healing with funded fellowships, research grants, and paper/presentation awards from numerous specialty and national societies. He has published over 70 scientific articles, 8 textbook chapters, and serves on several scientific review and editorial boards. His current research projects deal with ultrasound-assisted liposuction,minimally invasive facial rejuvenation, scar-less healing, advanced technologies in wound care, nutrition in healing, and functional outcomes after hand surgery.
He is in charge of directing the training of 12 plastic surgery residents at all times and is an accomplished educator with teaching awards from each of his training programs. Dr. Gupta is available to see patients from Southern California for consultation in both Riverside and Loma Linda.
